A Night at the Theater

It seems that it is officially Fall/Winter here in Phoenix. Yesterday afternoon brought a chill that turned into just cold last night. A few friends and I spent the evening huddled on my couch watching a movie and drinking hot beverages. An enjoyable evening for sure.

While it can at times be hard to convince me to leave the warmth (or air conditioning, depending on the season) of my home, there’s one night that I will be out and about for sure.

On December 7th, 2010 (just one week from today) Phoenix Theater donated a night of HAIRSPRAY to Arizona Citizens for the Arts. There are two great reasons to get out to the theater on the 7th:

1) HAIRSPRAY is a hilarious play, one not to be missed

2) The arts and arts education community needs a strong voice, a strong showing of public support now more than ever. Come out and show your support for Arizona Citizens for the Arts, as we prepare for the new session and begin the work of protecting what is important to you.

Arizona Citizens for the Arts and Phoenix Theatre will host Legislative Night during a special fundraising performance of Les Misérables. Legislative Night brings together Arizona state legislators and arts advocates to promote public dialogue, build support of the arts and discuss the impact the arts have on Arizona communities. Don’t miss this special showing of what the Phoenix Theatre is calling a “modern musical masterpiece… epic, grand and uplifting.”

This story, based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo is set in 19th century France. Jean Valjean, is released on parole after 19 years of unjust imprisonment. Finding that he has become an outcast of society with nothing more than mistrust and mistreatment, he breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life. Struggling for redemption, he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.
